The British Shohin Association held a successful First Annual Show and Launch Party at Willowbog Bonsai over the weekend of Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th January 2006.
The show was a great success with many visitors over the weekend from all over the UK, and a high quality display of shohin compositions, individual shohin, mame and chuhin displays.
Marco Invernizzi gave an excellent talk and demonstration, joined by Morten Albek from Denmark, (creator of the Shohin Europe website) to a packed room. Later, Marco gave a slide presentation of personal photographs taken at a recent Gafu-Ten exhibition in Kyoto, the largest shohin-bonsai exhibition in Japan. Marco, who is an enthusiastic speaker and lover of shohin-bonsai also did a workshop with a group of very interested participants, and an attentive audience.
The president of BSA, 2005 Gingko award winning Caroline Scott, displayed a beautiful collection of shohin and gave a fascinating talk on displaying shohin, which was very well received and gave plenty to think about when putting together a shohin composition.
The Saturday night evening meal and party was enjoyed by everyone – giving a chance for Bonsai enthusiasts to catch up and enjoy the exhibition late into the night.
